This miniature portrait is very well painted by an unknown artist. Unusually for the quality, it is painted on card rather than ivory. The sitter is a French officer, but so far he has not been identified. 920
Later, a kind collector has advised;
I would say it is a captain, because the epaulettes have thin threads. On superior officer epaulettes (from major onwards) the threads are very strong. Also, a general would have silver stars on the epaulettes (2 for General de Brigade, 3 for General de Division). Furthermore, I think according to the uniform it is an officer from the Artillery. As for time, I would say french Monarchy, because of the orders (Order St. Louis on the left), time of King Louis Phillip, from 1830-1848, somewhere in this time...
